-  Native Tree Saplings provided by The Portage Soil and Water Conservation District

Years of poor agricultural practices such as over-grazing and over-plowing along with years of drought led to the devastating decade-long event we now refer to as the dust bowl. This event was a wake up call to people that their traditional way of farming was not suited for their surrounding environment. In March of 1935, Hugh Hammond Bennett, a soil scientists commonly referred to as "the father of soil conservation" testified before Congress about the need for soil conservation. The result was the passing of the Soil Conservation Act. This act established the Soil Conservation Service (now the Natural Resources Conservation Service), as a permanent department of the USDA.

-  Soil Life Solutions

Soil Life Solutions was started in 2024, by William Neverman, with the long term goal of building healthy soil in Ohio with beneficial microbes. William studied under Dr. Elaine Ingham, at the Soil Food Web School, and acquired skills in compost building and microscopy to start Soil Life Solutions.

William is going to beusing his microscope to display on a computer monitor these beneficial microbes, which are necessary for healthy soil and the earth, at the Who’s Your Mama? Earth day festival.

-  Lady Kate Stitchery

   Sustainable handmade and vintage fashions

When I was 15 years old,my aunt Kate, my namesake, gave me a box of her old clothes from the 1950's-60's. It was love at first sight and I've been wearing and collecting vintage fashions ever since. I named Lady Kate's Stitchery and Fashion Refinery in her memory.

I began sewing at 4 years old and it has become my life. I have earned degrees in fashion, theatre and interior design. I've worked for a famous NYC fashion designer and taught design at a top 3 fashion college.

I create wearable art, costumes, bridals, hats, masks, puppets and dolls. I do home interiors and historic reproductions. I love to upcycle clothing and also make memory items such as stuffed animals, dolls and pillows. I do accept custom orders.
